Lloydminster Big Brothers Big Sisters raising money during the Christmas season

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Lloydminster is raising money to help cover some of their programming costs. The campaign is called “Ignite a Little sparkle,” and one part fundraiser is called “Light the Lights.”

The concept is straightforward, and BBBS Director of Service Delivery Jacqueline Weed hopes to raise more than last year.

“Individuals, businesses, families can make a donation. And then they get their name on a light bulb, which is put up on the strands of lights that we have up in our office. And then once we have a full strand of lights, we plug it in and light it up,” Weed said.

Weed says last year they raised around $7,000, and they hope to beat that this year. In 2021, they put up 14 strands of lights. So far this year, they’re about halfway to match 2021, but they would like to be able to hang up to 20 strands.

Weed says BBBS continues to be busy. “We do have kids on the waiting list. And we’ve been really fortunate this fall to get people volunteering. Our in-school mentoring program is back to being in person. And our traditional match program which is the Big Brother Big Sister program is doing well.” Weed says. “But there is always a need. Because as you advertise for mentors, you get families that learn about your services as well.”

Anybody interested in donating can call BBBS at 306-825-5757 to find out how.

Weed says they appreciate all financial donations and the volunteers that give of their time.

“Whether they donate financially or donate their time, they’re still providing some Christmas magic to the kids in our agency.”
