Young soccer players in the Battlefords and area will have a chance to work on their skills alongside a pair of Canada’s best this weekend.

The Saskatchewan Soccer Association will be hosting a pair of Holiday Pro Camps for youth U8 to U15 at North Battleford’s InnovationPlex NationsWEST Field House.

The weekend will feature coaching by Saskatchewan-born professionals Thomas Hasal (goalkeeper for Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps) and Brett Levis (defender for FC Tulsa in the USL Championship).

The two Holiday Pro Camps will take place this Saturday, Dec. 17, with a Mini Session from 4-5:30 p.m., followed by a Youth Session from 6-8 p.m., both featuring skill development and a chance to learn from the pros.

  • The Mini Session is for kids U8-U10 and includes 90 minutes of field time, along with a question and answer period with the pros and a signing session. The cost to attend the session is $30.
  • The Youth Session is for youth U11-U15 and includes two hours of field time, along with a question and answer period with the pros and a signing session. The cost to attend the session is $40.

Head coach and competitive coordinator with Battlefords United FC, Kat Huxley said the camp is something they’re looking forward to in the community for the first time.

“It gives the local area a chance to learn from the pros who are Saskatchewan Athletes,” Huxley said. “This will help foster [young players’] dreams and ambitions and love for the game, and provide them with role models to whom they can learn from and follow in the future.”

The registration deadline for this weekend’s Holiday Pro Camps is Thursday, Dec. 15, with limited spots available. More information on the camps and registration is available here.
