Melfort Christmas Castle supporting local food bank, fight against childhood cancer

The Christmas Castle in Melfort is getting locals in the holiday spirit, right before the Christmas weekend.

The Christmas tree maze began earlier this month (Dec. 5), and will run nightly from 6-9 p.m., until Thursday, Dec. 22.

The event, which is free to attend, encourages people to donate, as all funds raised go to the North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF).

“The North Central Healthcare Foundation helps to fundraise for all the medical facilities within the area, and for the needed equipment that we use on a day-to-day basis to optimize patient care,” explained Dr. Yemi, founder of the Christmas Castle.

“It’s been beneficial in raising funds towards a CT scanner in Melfort, and all the other little equipment that we use in the hospital beds and other things for patient care overall.”

According to its website, the NCHCF is able to determine the highest priorities each year so that funds are always directed to the areas of care where they are needed most.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than $1,000,000 toward the furnishing of Parkland Place and additional funds to meet the needs at Melfort Hospital, Parkland Place (including the Therapies Department), Nirvana Assisted Living, and Home Care services in Melfort.

It has also raised over $510,000 for upgrading the digital imaging services at the Melfort Hospital, over $77,000 for a new incubator and over $750,000 to fund a new heliport emergency transportation unit for patients in critical need.

“A not-for-profit organization that supports childhood cancer, and the Melfort Food Bank,” added Yemi.

The Christmas Castle, along with its Christmas tree maze, will feature refreshments, snacks, and music.

The festivities are currently being held at the Melfort historic post office.

“It gives us the opportunity to bring life to the historic post office and to get people into that building to appreciate the majesty of that great infrastructure,” Yemi told northeastNOW.

“The Christmas Castle is just an avenue for us to work together and share the spirit of Christmas, the love, the joy, the hope and the peace that Christmas promises, allowing us to come together as a community and just be there for one another.”
