Twinkle Tours, People’s Choice winners announced

There were some new and some familiar faces when the winners were announced at the City of North Battleford’s Twinkle Tours awards celebration, during “Light Up The Night” Tuesday.

The awards event to recognize the best decorated homes and commercial establishments was held inside the NationsWEST Field House in North Battleford due to the extreme cold weather.

One. Twice. Yes, two times a winner it was for one lucky resident this year.

For the second year in a row, Hans Klassen picked up the award for the Best Decorated House for his home at 1402 98th Street in North Battleford. He will receive a prize package from Magic Lantern Cinemas.

For the Best Commercial Entry, the winner was the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre (BDFRC). Manager Blake Feist and artist Kurtis Kopp accepted the award.

For the Best Block, the 1800 block of 91 Street received the honour, and will see a Street Blade Sign put up by the city to highlight the residents’ efforts.

And, new this year is the People’s Choice Award. The award was given to the best decorated home as voted by the public at cjnb.ca. The winner will also receive a $150 gift card from Discovery Co-op. The big winner was announced as Brad Mitchell for his home at 2512 Blue Jay Crescent.

Also during the evening, Santa Claus was present to pose for pictures with the kids.

North Battleford Mayor David Gillan presented the awards to the winners during the celebration.

He said the first ever Light Up the Night event was a great way for the community to come together to celebrate the holiday season.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t be outside. Mother Nature didn’t co-operate tonight,” Gillan said. “We had to be inside. This is our first. Every year we’ll have this, and hopefully we’ll be able to be outside next year, enjoying the great outdoors.”

Gillan thanked all the organizers of the event as well as the sponsors, including CJNB for partnering on the project as well.

“I want to thank everybody,” he added. “And, of course I wish everybody a Merry Christmas, and a very safe Christmas. We will see you in 2023.”
