Ice Wolves start 2023 with back-to-back games

Jan 3, 2023 | 8:00 AM

The La Ronge Ice Wolves are back on the ice for two straight games starting Tuesday night.

The club takes on the Flin Flon Bombers on home ice for the first time since Dec. 17, the final game of 2022. The Bombers took that game 3-2 in a shootout. Dylan Handel and Kaycee Coyle had the goals for the Ice Wolves.

“It all starts on the third (against Flin Flon),” said Ice Wolves forward Walker Jerome. “With these practices this weekend, we will get our cardio back – and we will be back in shape for the third.”

The following day, Jan. 4, the Ice Wolves face a big challenge, taking on the top team in the SJHL and the country in the Battlefords North Stars. The last time these teams met was on Dec. 7 as the North Stars took that game 3-1.

La Ronge beat the North Stars for one of its only overtime losses of the year on Nov. 11.

The Ice Wolves enter the second half of the 2022-23 season in second in the SJHL with a 21-10-3 record.

“The first half was very successful, we played a lot of hockey,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “Our schedule is better (during the second half), not as many games.”

Tuesday and Wednesday’s games both have 7:30 starts.
