Bears split home weekend with Gold Wings

Jan 8, 2023 | 4:23 PM

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears went one for two this past weekend when they hosted the Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings at the Art Hauser Centre.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE (for Saturday)

The Bears struggled offensively in the opening period in Saturday’s contest where Weyburn managed three goals in the frame. The score stayed like that until the third when the Gold Wings added another to make it one short of a fistful. Later on that same period, however, the Bears began the improbable. PA went on to score three straight goals to cut the lead to one with less than a minute to go. But with the net empty, the Bears couldn’t tie it up where they fell 4-3.

Tristyn Endicott, Ella Clarke, and Elizabeth Udell were the goal scorers in the game while Jasmine Kohl, Julia Cey, and Jacquelyne Chief were the assist-getters. Brooke Archer was between the pipes for PA, stopping 21 shots in the loss.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE (for Sunday)

The Black and Orange had a quick and heavy response to the loss on Saturday when they returned the favour in the first period.

PA went on to open the game with three goals of their own to begin Sunday’s contest with markers from Endicott, Cey, and Sasha Malenfant. The score remained the same until Weyburn broke the goose egg in the second when Abigail Manz scored for the Wings. Unfortunately for Weyburn though, that’s the only goal they would score in the game. The Bears scored twice more in the third with Cey registering her second of the game while Beau Chisholm scored her first career goal to help PA win 5-1.

Annika Neufeldt got the start where she stopped 25 of 26 shots to help the Bears improve to 6-14-1-0 on the campaign.

After this weekend, Weyburn sits one spot behind the PA in the standing with a 4-15-0-1 record.

The Bears hit the road for their next slate of games when they visit the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats next weekend.
