Raiders goaltender Hildebrand recognized by WHL for outstanding weekend
After a game against the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, January 6, Prince Albert Raiders goaltending consultant Kelly Guard said he thought Max Hildebrand had just played the finest game of his WHL career. Clearly, Guard was not the only one who noticed.
The WHL announced today they had named Hildebrand goaltender of the week for the week ending on January 8. Hildebrand started two games on the weekend, and won both.
Hildebrand’s busier night and best performance came against the Rebels, when he stopped 32 of 33 shots flung his way by the powerhouse Red Deer squad. Hildebrand stopped several chances from Kai Uchacz, the WHL’s leading goal scorer, during the win. He was named first star of the game for his efforts.
Thanks to his heroics in the Friday night game, the Raiders gave Hildebrand another start on Saturday, January 7. He wasn’t as busy that night, facing only 20 shots on goal, and the team in front of him gave him more run support with six tallies, but Hildebrand still turned aside 18 shots for the win.
