Stars top CJHL rankings for 10th straight week

Jan 11, 2023 | 5:00 PM

Make it double-digit weeks at #1 in the nation for the Battlefords North Stars.

The Stars have extended their run atop the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League Top-20 Rankings for a 10th straight week, and 11th in the last 12, continuing their red-hot play into the New Year with a perfect 3-0 start to 2023.

The Stars picked up right where they left off ahead of the holiday break, with a 4-3 win over third-place La Ronge in their first game of the New Year last Wednesday, before following it up with two straight 5-1 victories Friday and Saturday night in their weekend sweep of division-rival Kindersley.

Currently, in the midst of a 14-game winning streak, the North Stars continue their unprecedented run as the lone team in the country – and in available SJHL archives – still undefeated in regulation time into the New Year. The team is now 31-0-2-1 on the season heading into their three-game southern road swing this weekend.

The North Stars will play three games in three nights on their upcoming swing, with stops in Wilcox (at Notre Dame), Weyburn, and Estevan.

All three games on the trip will be available on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast on 1050 CJNB. Thursday’s game at Notre Dame will be a slightly later start than usual, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show to begin at 7:30 p.m., and puck drop to follow at 8 p.m.

Rounding out the top five in the CJHL Top 20 this week, are the #2 Cobras de Terrebonne (30-2-0-0) of the LHJAAAQ, #3 Brooks Bandits (37-3-1-1) of the AJHL, and #4 Toronto Jr. Canadiens (33-3-1-1) and #5 Collingwood Blues (29-4-0-1) of the OJHL.
