Raiders close out season series against Oil Kings on the road

Jan 14, 2023 | 12:34 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders (14-23-3-0) look to sweep the season series against the last-place Edmonton Oil Kings (6-34-1-0) at Rogers Place on Saturday.

The Raiders enter tonight’s matchup having lost back-to-back games against some of the CHL’s best clubs, including a 5-3 loss to the Portland Winterhawks on Tuesday and a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds last night.

Edmonton on the other hand, enters the contest as winners in two of their last three games with back-to-back 3-2 victories against both the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Moose Jaw Warriors. Their bid for their first win streak of the season was snapped last night in Red Deer when the Rebels won 4-1.

This is the final meeting of the season between these clubs, which sees PA holding the 3-0 advantage in the season series. The Raiders won the previous meetings by 5-1, 2-1, and 4-2 decisions.

An updated look at the Eastern Conference standings heading into tonight.

Who to Watch

Forward Ryder Ritchie potted two assists during last night’s loss to Seattle, improving his season totals to 11 goals and 14 assists through his rookie campaign. The speedy Calgary product has also seen his fair share of success versus the Oil Kings this season, where he has a goal and two assists in three games against the defending champs.

Like Ritchie, veteran forward Keaton Sorensen has also had success versus Edmonton this year, netting himself three goals and an assist in three games against the Oil Kings this year. The 20-year-old currently sits with 28 points on the year, which ties a career-high.

Winger Niall Crocker got back on track with a second-period marker in last night’s contest, boosting his season totals. The former first-rounder in the 2019 bantam draft has six goals and eight assists through 38 games this season, totaling a career-high in points.
