Two Nipawin Hawks will travel to Winnipeg later this month for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) – Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Showcase.

Ratzlaff, 19, is currently tied for 15th in SJHL scoring with 33 points. The Abbotsford, B.C. product is also tied for seventh in goals with 20. Ratzlaff said he excited to attend the event with Stewart.

“We play alongside a great team,” he said. “To be able to showcase ourselves, I think it’s a good opportunity for us to go there and represent what Nipawin is all about.”

“Obviously it’s an exciting time, but I feel not just me and Maguire should be there,” Stewart said.

Both players know this season’s results (Stewart is second in scoring among SJHL defencemen) are a large part of their selections to the annual event. Ratzlaff said his fast-paced, speed game will show well at the Showcase.

“Just play my game, right? There is quite a few commitments out of there. I am just going to play my game and again, show them what Nipawin is all about,” he added.

Stewart, 19, is in a continued battle with Battleford’s Tynan Ewart for the lead among scoring for defenders. The West Kelowna, B.C. product feels his skills will also be highlighted.

“Just play my game, I can’t think about that [scholarships] too much,” he acknowledged. “If I go out there and play my game it will represent itself.”

The Showcase will run on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 from the Manitoba capital.

The Hawks are back on the ice Tuesday for a neutral site game against the Yorkton Terriers in Wadena. The game will be broadcasted on 750 Beach Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
