ML volunteers glad to shovel snow to help others

Two young men in the Meadow Lake area are offering their service and kindness to shovel people’s walkways this winter at no charge.

Travin Jensen and his friend Trae Duce are volunteering their labour just because they want to help people who need another hand with their chores, such as shovelling some snow or maybe even moving a heavy fridge or another item.

Jensen, 20, and Duce, 19, want to help in the community and are offering free snow shovelling and whatever other small service people may need.

The volunteers are missionaries with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Meadow Lake.

“We just go around helping people,” Jensen said. “And, we also teach people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Anyone interested in requesting the complimentary service can call them at 306-240-9068 and leave a message.

Jensen said they have also offered this service in the past, to make it easier on residents who might be elderly or dealing with mobility issues.

“We’ve done it a few times,” he said. “We just want to give to the community and help the best we can. We’re just here to help people.”

Jensen said they have had a fair number of responses from the community since they put out the call to offer their service.

“We do Meadow Lake, and if anybody needed help in Green Lake, we would probably go out and help those too. It’s only about 30 minutes away,” he said.

Jensen, who grew up in the Raymond area of southern Alberta, said offering a helping hand to others in need is just something he was raised to do.

“I know that some people don’t have someone to pay for their shovelling. So I thought: Let’s do it for free, so we are able to help people who aren’t able to,” he said. “When I was little, my dad always taught me to do service. Whenever he was out shovelling snow or fixing cars, I was out doing that. So, I always had the love for the work. I just love working helping people.”
