Raiders begin BC road trip versus Cougars

Jan 28, 2023 | 12:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders (16-25-3-0) kick off their two-week-long BC road trip tonight when they take on the Prince George Cougars (19-20-4-0) inside the CN Centre.

This is the first meeting between the two since January 10, 2020, when the Raiders edged the Cougars 2-1 in overtime at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders come into the game on a high note after defeating rival Saskatoon Blades in their last contest 3-1 at home. The win was in response to a 6-1 defeat the previous night as a part of a home-and-home series with the Blades.

The Cougars are also in the same boat, having defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 in overtime in their last game. The contest was the final one of their Central Division road trip where they finished 2-4 with the other win coming against the Calgary Hitmen 6-5.

Both clubs have also won two of their last five games but the Raiders have a better last 10 games record, going 5-5-0-0 compared to the Cougars 5-4-1-0.

After tonight, PA makes the 11-hour journey south to the island where they’ll face the Victoria Royals on Tuesday night.

An updated look at the Eastern Conference standings ahead of tonight.

Who to Watch

Veteran Keaton Sorensen had a pair of points in his last game against Saskatoon where he scored a powerplay goal and added an assist in the third period. The two points helped the Red Deer product achieve 75 career points and a career-high of 31 points on the year.

Much like Sorensen, forward Niall Crocker also had a goal and an assist in his last game. The 18-year-old had the game-winning goal midway through the third and assisted on Eric Johnston’s marker just 15 seconds later. The goal was the tenth of his career and the seventh of the season. The Delta, BC product will look to add to that total as he’s expected to play in his 130th career game.

Alternate captain Landon Kosior had two helpers in the win against Saskatoon to help improve his season totals to 34 points in 36 games played this season. Kosior is 11 points back of tying a career-high in points and sits 10 games shy of playing 200 in a Raiders uniform.
