Accused in Superstore stabbing back in court, charge added

The 23-year-old man accused of stabbing another man at the Superstore last year was back before a judge in Prince Albert this morning and had another charge of failing to appear added to a growing list of infractions.

Eagleclaw William Sanderson was initially charged in Prince Albert in mid-March of 2022 after an incident in which three people accosted two others outside the Superstore.

A watcher intervened and in the resulting scuffle was stabbed near the heart.

Sanderson was subsequently charged with aggravated assault. This morning, he appeared in court by phone from the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

In addition to the assault charges, he now also faces multiple charges of failing to appear in court and breaching his release conditions.

On December 11, he was charged by Saskatoon Police with possessing a knife, carrying a concealed weapon and failing to abide by his release conditions.

Despite asking when he was to be sentenced the judge told Sanderson that he should review his case and call a lawyer immediately.

He is to be back in provincial court tomorrow for a show cause hearing to determine his release eligibility.
