Extreme cold warning issued for northeast

Jan 31, 2023 | 2:46 PM

The northeast will be experiencing some extremely low temperatures over the next couple of days.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for multiple communities including Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, and Carrot River.

The temperature is expected to hover between minus twenties and minus thirties.

However, Terri Lang, a regional meteorologist with Environment Canada, told northeastNOW it should start to get warmer as we get closer to the weekend.

“We will see a southeasterly wind kick in and that usually means warmer temperatures.”

Afterward, the northeast should experience average temperatures for this time of year which turns out to be a high of around -12 during the day and -23 during the night.

Lang explained it’s too hard to make accurate forecasts past next week. Despite this, Environment Canada believes February will be colder than average.

“That doesn’t mean we won’t see warm spells; it also doesn’t mean we’ll be in a deep freeze the entire month,” Lang said. “On average it’ll be colder.

Meanwhile, the weather agency is reminding people to dress appropriately when going outside.

Also, if it’s too cold for you then it’s too cold for your pet.
