Hawks renew rivalry with Bombers in Flin Flon
The Hawks have a successful January behind them and now the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) team will open the month of February with a road matchup in Flon Flon against the Bombers.
Nipawin has been idle since losing to La Ronge 6-3 on home ice back on Jan. 28, the loss capped a month that saw the Hawks win seven games in 10 contests. Head Coach Tad Kozun is happy with his team and being in a position to return to the playoffs.
“Looking back on it [January] we’re really happy with where we are at and the steps we’ve taken in the month,” Kozun said. “We’re excited to get going now in February.”
Saturday’s showdown with the Bombers is the fourth meeting of the year between the two teams, Flin Flon has won the last two while Nipawin was victorious in the season-series opener way back on Sept. 17. With the Bombers hovering near the top of the SJHL standings and poised to return to the league finals the Hawks are preparing like the foes could meet in the first round of the playoffs. Kozun said the game will have a postseason feel to it.
