Raiders wrap up BC swing against the Rockets

Feb 4, 2023 | 1:48 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders (19-26-3-0) finish up their time in BC tonight when they visit Prospera Place for a bout with the Kelowna Rockets (16-26-3-0).

The Raiders come into the contest on the losing end of their last game when they fell 6-4 to the BC Division-best Kamloops Blazers. PA gave it their all in the game, going down 2-0 early in the first only to climb back and take the lead 3-2 going into the second. The game was tied at four going into the third before the Blazers added two late in the game to take the win. Prior to last night’s defeat, PA was a perfect 3-0 on the trip with wins against Prince George, Victoria, and Vancouver.

For Kelowna, they enter tonight riding high after defeating the Giants in back-to-back games within the past week, including a 5-1 win on Saturday and a 5-4 victory last night. Prior to their recent success however, the Rockets were on a three-game skid and currently have a last-10 record of 3-7-0-0.

The last time these teams met was back on Dec. 6, 2019, inside the Art Hauser Centre when the Raiders fell in a close contest 2-1. The last time PA was in Prospera Place was close to the same story where the Raiders fell 4-3 in a shootout.

After tonight, Prince Albert heads back east to Saskatchewan where they’ll close out the roadie in Swift Current to kick off a home-and-home weekend with the Broncos on Friday night.

Heading into tonight, the Raiders sit eight points behind the Broncos for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Who to Watch

Veteran blueliner Landon Kosior continued his tear through BC last game and will look to do the same tonight to close out the western swing. The Raiders assistant captain tallied a pair of points in the game including a goal and an assist to boost his BC totals to eight points (3G, 5A) in four games. With his goal last night, he moved into a tie for first with Olen Zellweger for the league’s top goal-scoring defensemen with 15 on the year. The 20-year-old is also the only active Raider to score against the Rockets after he collected an assist on an Ozzy Wiesblatt tally back in Dec. 2019.

Rookie Brayden Dube found the back of the net in Kamloops to not only break an eight-game pointless streak, but he also snapped an 18-game goalless drought. The Roblin, MB product will appear in his 40th career game in Kelowna and will look to add to his current season totals where he sits with four goals and three assists.

Forward Sloan Stanick had a pair of assists against the Blazers to improve his point total to a team-high 44 points (17G, 27A). So far on the trip, the pride of Rapid City, MB has yet to find the back of the net but has registered four assists in four games. The 6’1 winger also sits five points shy of a new career high in points which he achieved in the 2021-22 season when he spilt time with PA and Regina.
