Four names in running for Muskoday chief

Residents of Muskoday will have a new chief following the upcoming election as Ava Bear has opted not to run again.

Yesterday was nomination day for the First Nation which resulted in four people running for the position of chief and 19 people hoping to be one of the five councillors.

Nominees for chief include: Randy Bear, Ronald M. Bear, Elwin Bear and Betty Prosper.

Candidates for council include: Brian Glen Attig, Tracy Lorraine Bear, Herman Crain, Elizabeth ‘Merle’ Crain, Crystal Dreaver, Eldon Crain, Theodore (Ted) Bear, Dianna Dreaver, Shelley Bear, Donald (Donny) Bear, Beryl Bear, Elaine Smith-Ross, Amber Monks, Deborah Dumais, Clayton Lee Crain, Corine Bear, Clayton Victor Bear, Teresa Badger and Amy Bear.

Beryl Bear, Clayton Bear, Tracy Bear and Merle Crain are all incumbent councillors who have submitted nominations.

No nomination is listed for the fifth councillor Delbert Bear.

The election was called on December 24 and voting will take place at the Muskoday First Nation Community Center on Monday, March 27, 2023.

The last election was in 2021.
