Battlefords local, Brody Wrench is primed for the pitchers mound at the post-secondary level this fall, with Williston State College.

Recently announcing his commitment to the Tetons baseball program, based out of Williston, North Dakota, the commitment signifies a benchmark in Wrench’s baseball journey that he’s been striving towards for some time.

“It’s been something I’ve been working towards for a long time now, so having this opportunity really means a lot to me,” Wrench said. “It’s always been a dream of mine when I was younger [to play college ball], and I never thought that I’d have this opportunity, so I’m really excited about it.”

As for Williston State specifically, Wrench said the college couldn’t have been a better fit all the way around.

“I chose Williston because it checked off all the boxes for me,” Wrench said. “They have great facilities and athletics as well as academics.”

Wrench is currently in his senior year at North Battleford Comprehensive High School, having spent the last two seasons playing 18U AAA with the Lloyd Prairie Pirates summer team, while also suiting up for fall baseball with the Lloyd Bulldogs Baseball Academy.

A 6-2 tall lefty with a quick release from the mound, Wrench posted a 6-0 record last summer, along with a 1.53 ERA (earned run average), 1.06 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched), and 79 strikeouts in 59.2 innings played, on his way to becoming the 18U Prairie Pirates’ career strikeouts leader.

With a fastball clocked as fast as 81 kilometers per hour, Wrench’s numbers also saw him selected to Team Alberta’s pitching rotation at the ‘Best of the West’ Baseball Tournament in Kamloops, B.C., last season.

Williston State College is coming off a strong 2022 baseball season that saw the Tetons post a 34-15 overall record for a .694 winning percentage, including 12 victories in their 15 games at home.

Wrench will join the Tetons in September, in time for their 2023 fall season.
