North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is thanking the community for its ongoing support.

The organization recently received a donation of $9,056.88 from the local Tim Horton’s after its holiday Smile Cookie campaign.

NEOSS Executive Director Jason De Haan told northeastNOW not only was this a special donation but the community came together to help make the campaign even more special.

“It was only piloted in Saskatchewan for the first time this year to see how it was going. Then we were able to get some matching daily sponsors from each community of Nipawin, Tisdale and Melfort,” he said.

Between the Smile Cookie donation and sponsor support, the amount NEOSS received was $16,000.

All of the funds will be used towards the continuous programs that NEOSS runs as well as providing training for staff.

“Whether we’re dealing with domestic violence or we’re dealing with people in the community we do lots of different training aspects pertaining to those jobs,” De Haan said.

There are currently 56 NEOSS employees across the northeast who provide service in one of the 11 branches of programming currently offered.

The different programs include the domestic violence shelter, 24-hour crisis line, short-term community-based housing, rapid access counselling, second stage housing, family intervention support, prevention support, Nipawin early years family resource centre, community outreach, Melfort youth evolution and the Good Food box.

Although this donation is greatly appreciated, the non-profit is always seeking more funding in order to continue to provide these vital services to the northeast.

“We have to go out and seek things although we get approached for sure we have to be proactive just like any nonprofit,” De Haan said.

Although NEOSS is proud of what they have accomplished, De Haan said they want to continue to grow and appreciate those who have stood by them.

“There’s a lot to do yet for the wellness side of the community and we want to thank the community for the support so far,” he said.
