Ochitwa commits to Concordia; Hawks begin three game southern swing
The Nipawin Hawks had some positive news this week as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) team prepares for a three-game road trip beginning Thursday at Notre Dame.
On Wednesday the club announced that 20-year-old forward Alex Ochitwa committed to Concordia University Wisconsin CUW in NCAA Division III. The Prince George, B.C. product said he was in discussion with several schools, but CUW was the clear-cut choice.
“At the end of the day I want to go to school and get better over the next four years and play as much hockey as I can,” he told northeastNOW following the announcement. “I think it’s the best opportunity I could put myself in.”
Ochitwa sits eighth on the Hawks in scoring this year with 11 goals and eight assists in 40 games played. He added that the CUW coach Jim Mosso made the trip to Nipawin and watch him play. He said the interest CUW showed was important in his decision.
