Sucker River preparing for WinterFest23

Residents of Sucker River are looking forward to WinterFest23 next week.

The festivities begin on Valentine’s Day with a dance and a couples steak dinner, followed by a children’s festival, skiing competition, skate night, and cribbage tournament on Feb. 15. A youth fish derby, fun night and pool and darts will occur Feb. 16, while a pancake breakfast, chili cooking competition and Texas Hold-em tournament are scheduled for Feb. 17.

An entire day of activities is planned for Feb. 18 including a pancake breakfast, horse sleight rides, turkey curl, come-and-go bingo, the Gloria Eninew Memorial Broomball Tournament (Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre), talent night and the Drag Queen/She’s the Man Show.

Sunday, Feb. 19 will also be a busy day with another pancake breakfast, trapper events and buckskin parade, snowshoe races, merchandise bingo and the snow sculpture contest judging.

The last day of WinterFest23 is Feb. 20, which will include the Emily McKenzie Memorial $10,000 Family Fish Derby, jigging and fish filleting competitions, and a community supper.

The Lac La Ronge Winter Festival also begins this month. It will run from Feb. 24 to March 25 and it includes $50,000 in total prize money.
