Raiders blanked by Broncos for second straight shutout loss

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – For the second game in a row, the Prince Albert Raiders were held off the scoreboard only this time losing to the Swift Current Broncos 4-0 at the InnovationPlex.

The loss is also the third straight for the Raiders after they were stumped in Kelowna last week 4-0, and fell short the night before in Kamloops 6-3.

Connor Hvidston had a goal and three assists in the game for the Broncos, leading the game in scoring. Brady Bernie had two points of his own scoring one of each while Owen Pickering and Mathew Ward also lit the lamp. Sam McGinley, Grayson Burzynski, Caleb Wyrostok, and Clarke Caswell each had assists in the game.

Reid Dyck was a wall for Swift Current, turning aside 19 saves for the shutout win and to help the Broncos improve to 24-21-1-2 on the year.

Tikhon Chaika made 31 saves for PA as the Raiders now fall to 19-28-3-0 on the campaign.

The Raiders trailed by one after the opening twenty when Hvidston potted his 13th of the year midway through the period.

Fast forward to the midway mark of the second period and the Broncos added two more in the frame to extend their lead to three. Birnie and Pickering each scored less than a minute a part from each other as Swift Current carried that lead heading into the third.

Ward added another in the third for the Broncos where they took game one of this home-and-home weekend, 4-0.

Game two of the home-and-home happens Saturday night against the same Swift Current team at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is at 7pm.
