PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders won their third game in a row on Saturday night, squeaking past the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The win comes a day after defeating the Regina Pats in a barnburner, 6-5.

When asked about his teams play against Moose Jaw, Raiders head coach Jeff Truitt said there’s things to work on yet, but a wins a win.

“I didn’t like our first period at all,” he said. “I thought it was an emotional let down, I thought that we were slow, I don’t know what they were thinking. It was a grind it out kind of game from there on in. Certainly wasn’t pretty, lots of turnovers, missed plays, missed coverages and stuff. Sometimes that does happen with a group who comes off an emotional win like that but, right now, we can’t have the ups and downs. It’s good to get the two points, don’t get me wrong. There’s just gotta be more consistency in our game.”

Landon Kosior had his second multi-point game in as many days where he collected a goal and an assist in the game. Niall Crocker also had a pair of points with two goals while Aiden Oiring, and Eric Johnston each lit the lamp for the Raiders in the contest. Ryder Ritchie had an assist hat-trick while Evan Herman, Sloan Stanick, and Carter Anderson each collected assists.

Brayden Yager and Josh Hoekstra were the two goal scorers for the Warriors while Eric Alarie, Ben Riche, and Denton Mateychuk had the helpers.

Tikhon Chaika made 21 saves for the win and to help the Raiders improve to 22-28-3-0 on the campaign.

Jackson Unger had 18 stops in the loss where the Warriors fall to 33-19-0-3 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Raiders struck first with five minutes to go in the opening period where Anderson forced a Warriors turnover in the offensive end. The puck then got jumbled in with some sticks before ending up on the tape of Crocker who fired it home to give PA the lead.

A short time later however and we were back to even. Yager faked a pass to create some space, got in tight, and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Chaika where the game was one all going into the second.

Less than two minutes into the middle frame and Prince Albert regained the lead thanks to a high-slot rocket from Oiring for his second tally in as many games.

The Raiders then doubled their lead on the man advantage midway through the frame when the birthday boy, Johnston tallied his third of the season to give PA a 3-1 lead after the second.

The Warriors got one back early in the final frame with Mateychuk connecting with Hoekstra to bring Moose Jaw to within one.

But one goal is as close as they would get. Kosior restored the Raiders two goal lead before Crocker added the empty netter to seal the 5-2 win for Prince Albert.

The Green and Gold wrap up their busy long weekend Monday afternoon when they take on the Wheat Kings in Brandon.
