Broncos stick to win column as SJHL regular season enters its final weeks
The Humboldt Broncos have clinched their spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League 2023 playoff series, but the battle isn’t over yet.
The green and gold finished off their February action 7-1-1. This included three wins against fellow playoff contenders, the Estevan Bruins and Nipawin Hawks. The Hawks were responsible for the Broncos’ only loss as they split a home and home series this past weekend, which assistant coach Carter Hansen said was not their best way to cap off the month.
“I think at times we showed how good we can be just having that consistency throughout the year,” he told northeastNOW. “Obviously, we had that long week last weekend, and now coming into this weekend, I think the boys will want to put in a better effort.”
The Broncos outscored their opponents 41-26 this past month. Forwards Cage Newans and Lucas Ceccarelli are topping the Broncos leaderboard with 19 goals and 32 assists and 13 goals and 38 assists respectively. With both sitting at 51 points a piece, they are currently ninth and tenth for the league’s top skaters.
