The massive building being erected in The Yard is close to being finished and it will be the biggest of its kind in Prince Albert.

That is according to Gary Brar, the owner of the new Holiday Inn Express being built in the district, which is expected to open in November.

“With 121 rooms, it will be the largest hotel in Prince Albert,” said Brar.

The Prince Albert location is one of many hotels that Brar owns in the province with others in North Battleford, Moose Jaw and Esterhazy.

When Brar learned about The Yard shopping and entertainment district from Signature Developments, he said he was all in.

Once completed, the hotel is expected to provide about 20 full-time and five part-time jobs in the community.

Despite the frigid weather, he said construction has gone well.

“Lots of cold air,” Brar said. “But we’ve got the structure up and now we can begin working inside.”

The hotel received its development permit last August, being the first project in The Yard to receive one and start construction.

Other developments confirmed for the district so far include a new aquatic and arena centre for the city and a food service hub.
