Nomination meeting being held for LLRIB general election

The nomination meeting for the upcoming Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) election March 30 is being held Thursday afternoon.

The nomination meeting is for anyone interested in running for council and it’s taking place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Those who run must be an eligible voter, have no criminal record, have no more than $1,000 in outstanding debt to the LLRIB and must have an existing agreement to repay the debt, and meeting applicable residency requirements.

There is no residency requirement for a candidate to run for the position of chief.

There are four councillor positions for La Ronge, three for Stanley Mission, two for Little Red River and one each for Grandmother’s Bay, Hall Lake and Sucker River.

Advance polls will be held March 22 and the general election day on March 30. Electronic voting, which is occurring for the first time in a general election, begins at 10 a.m. on March 18 and ends 11:59 p.m. on March 29.

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson has already announced her intention to run for re-election, along with Coun. Ann Ratt of La Ronge.
