Melfort is getting ready to go MAD with Melfort Amateur Dramatics

Melfort is going mad over the upcoming Melfort Amateur Dramatics (MAD) productions.

From March 30 to April 1, MAD is bringing three unique plays to the public featuring local actors.

One of the two directors showcasing their work, Mel Annand told northeastNOW that they are working to showcase comedy with meaningful messages.

“The three plays in the Madhouse are titled 40 Questions, Fighting Mr Right and Speed Dating. They’re all about relationships.”

To put together the production, Annand said that it typically takes about three months from start to finish.

As the productions approach opening night, it is not only the actors who reap the rewards of a successful performance.

Annand said that seeing actors turn words on a page into something with so much life is rewarding.

“We have some new actors and people that are relatively new to the stage, learning their craft from some of the more experienced actors that are performing.”

After working through auditions with Melfort’s talent pool, they narrowed the final cast to five actors.

With a promising pool of performers in Melfort and surrounding areas, Anannd explained he is proud of the actors we have in the Northeast.

“I know from seeing the drama in other parts of the province that we have a talent pool here that’s second to none.”

Since the pandemic put a pause on previous productions, Annand reminds everyone this is the perfect event to get together with those they love.

“I think it’s important that people regenerate the feeling of community that the Northeast had after the pandemic and this is an opportunity to do that. Come out and make connections with your family, friends and neighbours.”

Despite being able to operate at maximum capacity, Annand reminds everyone that you will need to act fast to secure your tickets.

“We’re limited because of seating capacity so only 60 tickets per night.”
