Melfort’s annual city-wide garage sale will have residents pulling out their pocketbooks for what is expected to be a record-setting year.

On May 27, one man’s trash is truly another man’s treasure as the city comes together to shop until they drop.

Organizer Jacey Bailey told northeastNOW that last year there were 60 houses which is a big improvement from the first year.

“Every year I have hosted it has gotten progressively more popular. The first year, we only had 27 houses.”

This year shoppers can expect to see a variety of houses with everything from the Pampered Chef, Scentsy, antiques, clothes and toys. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“It draws traffic from people all over Saskatchewan,” Bailey continued. “Businesses in town, as well as churches and youth groups, all participate by offering deals, and the NESPCA even puts on a burger and pop lunch that sells out every year.”

Due to the pandemic, there were two years when the event was not held but Bailey doesn’t expect that to make any impact on traffic.

The Melfort garage sale was inspired by the Montgomery garage sale in Saskatoon.

“They put on a huge garage sale every year, and it is so fun to attend,” Bailey continued. “I really missed it when I moved to Melfort 10 years ago and decided I could make something like that happen around here.”

For those wanting to participate, you can contact Bailey via text at 306-222-4450 to have your address added to the event map.
