Ice Wolves end season with awards banquet

The Ice Wolves wrapped up the 2022 – 2023 season last Friday with an awards banquet and jersey auction.

Players highlighted at the event include (Most Sportsman Like) Mason Bueckert, (Top Defenseman) Liam McInnis and Connor Abric, (Most Dedicated Player) Ethan Strik, (Fan Favourite) Parker Layton, (Community Minded Award) Ethan Strik and Jacob Cossette.

Rookie of the Year went to Thomas Wright and Topher Chirico, (Most Improved Player) Parker Layton, (Mr. Hustle) Lleyton Shearon and Kale Taylor, (Best Playmaker Award) Walker Jerome and Liam McInnis, (Top Scorer) Walker Jerome, (Diamond in the Rough) Thomas Wright and Rylan Silzer.

Most Valuable Player and Playoffs MVP went to Dawson Smith. Coaches’ Award winners were Connor Abric, Trenton Curtis, Walker Jerome and Ethan Strik, and the Hugh Watt Memorial “Ironman” was Dylan Handel.

A special thank you went out to Rita Goertzen, who is leaving the Ice Wolves board after five years. She has been a big supporter of the team and was the billet coordinator.

“As an organization, we are sad to say ‘see you later’ to this kind, passionate and dedicated woman, as she decides to retire for real in Saskatoon,” the Ice Wolves wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for everything, Rita.”

The Ice Wolves will next host an awards banquet likely on Friday or Saturday to cap off the season. They will then host a spring camp from May 26-28 at Aberdeen.

Head coach Kevin Kaminski said invitations have been sent out, but anyone interested in trying out for the team is welcome to attend.
