Trial scheduled for one of accused in Maymont death

One of the three accused facing charges in the death of Wendy Bird near Maymont last year will be heading to trial.

Melissa Kaponyas, 18, from Biggar, is charged with accessory after the fact. She is scheduled for a trial at North Battleford provincial court on Nov. 6.

Also facing charges are Cassidy Kiskotagan and Dustin Cookman-Watts.

Kiskotagan, 19, from North Battleford, has been charged with accessory after the fact. She is due for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 6.

Cookman-Watts, 26, from North Battleford, is facing charges of second-degree murder in the case. He is set for a preliminary hearing on July 24.

Wendy Bird, from Prince Albert, was 24 at the time of her death. Her body was found along Highway 16 on the morning of Oct. 16, 2022, near the village of Maymont.
