The Tisdale Community Library is holding its second-ever fundraiser in hopes of continuing to bring literacy to the Northeast.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it hadn’t found the need to host fundraisers. But as the material budget dropped and interest in events as well as literacy increased, the library is trying to keep up with demand.

“We can’t keep up almost with the demand,” said librarian Kelly Cushniruk. “Right after COVID, we did not have many people coming but now it’s a lot.”

She, along with branch librarian Isabel Hankins-Wilks and Charity Flowerday, head of the ‘Friends of the Tisdale Library,’ came together to get the community involved in a silent auction in hopes of raising the funds needed for updated equipment in the Library.

They were able to gather support from 64 businesses who donated different items ranging from local artwork to a $250 travel voucher.

Those interested in bidding can head to the Tisdale Community Library to check out all items offered on Apr. 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Apr. 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Moving forward, the three women are also working on ensuring that there will be more opportunities for art events with each agreeing that they’re the most popular events.

Flowerday said anyone who’s interested in taking a hands-on role in helping plan these kinds of events or simply volunteering during them can join the ‘Friends of the Tisdale Library’ group.

“We help out with the library, anything they might need volunteers for. Maybe for us to come in and help do something in the library.”
