Meadow Lake Community Clean-Up Day this Sunday

Apr 28, 2023 | 4:34 PM

If you live in the Meadow Lake area, you might want to get involved in the annual Community Clean-Up Day taking place this Sunday.

The event is being organized by Aden Wilson and Kassidy Dunsing of Sun Life Financial in Meadow Lake.

Dunsing said about 15 to 20 businesses and organizations, including the City of Meadow Lake, are helping sponsor the event.

Those taking part in the clean up can pick up free garbage bags, gloves and cleaning supplies at Sun Life Financial in Meadow Lake on April 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Then, they can head outside to remove litter from streets, sidewalks and parks, etc. in the area.

Next, they are asked to snap a photo of themselves and their trash haul, and share it on the social media on Facebook to show off the positive impact they are making in the community.

After that, participants can head to Sun Life Financial for a chance to win prizes. Then, they can visit nearby Campton’s restaurant on Centre Street to enjoy a free specialty beverage and sweet treat.

This is the third year Dunsing has been involved in organizing the clean up event.

“In the past, we held the clean up throughout the week, and you would pick whatever day, post your pictures and you would be entered to be able to win prizes,” she said. “This year, we decided we would just choose one day, and do our best to promote that engagement for just that full day.”

Dunsing hopes there is a good turnout.

Some of the prizes people can win include vehicle detailing – a $400 prize up for grabs, gift cards for Bliss Salon and Spa, Nor’Wester Motor Inn, and Extra Foods, to name a few. A number of businesses have also made gift baskets as prizes for some of the winners.

People finishing collecting their trash on the streets, can drop it off into one of the two large dumpsters that will be set up outside Sun Life’s offices on Centre Street during the event.

“They don’t have to worry about using their home bin for it,” Dunsing said.

Some people who are not available Sunday have gone out and started their clean-up early, especially businesses that aren’t open Sunday. Some of the organizations that took part in community clean up efforts already include Meadow Lake Home Hardware, and KidsFirst.

Dunsing reminds people to tag Aden Wilson at Sun Life Financial in the photos they post to Facebook.

“We will continue to share them,” she said.

People do not need to register to participate in the Community Clean Up.

“The weather is looking really good,” Dunsing said. “They are calling for a beautiful day. We look forward to seeing lots of people out in the community.”
