Fire ban in effect for tri-communities
A fire ban is in effect as of 4 p.m. May 5 for the tri-communities.
That’s according to a notice issued by the La Ronge Regional Fire Department, which states the advisement was supported by Air Ronge, La Ronge and Lac La Ronge Indian Band leadership, as well as the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
The ban is for all open fires with the exception of traditional smokers, barbecues, propane-fueled fire pits and briquettes. In addition, all active burn permits are suspended immediately until the ban has been rescinded.
“The ban has been issued to ensure the risk of any wildfires within the tri-communities is eliminated as much as possible,” the notice states. “This is due to extreme heat, extreme fire index ratings and no precipitation forecasted in the near future.”
