On Thursday, May 11, the Prince Albert Raiders made Daxon Rudolph the first overall pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. Now, Rudolph has made his intent to join the team official.

The Raiders announced today, just four days after drafting Rudolph that he had signed his WHL Standard Player Agreement with the club. As a signed player, Rudolph is eligible to play in exhibition games.

“It feels great being selected (and signing) with such a great organization,” Rudolph said. “I’m really proud of myself, and I’m ready to get some work done in Prince Albert. They love winning and they’ve had some recent success, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it in the future.”

A smooth-skating, puck-moving blueliner, Rudolph dominated the U15 prep ranks with the Northern Alberta Xtreme program this past season. He posted 50 points in just 30 regular season games, which he followed up with an impressive five goals and 12 points in five playoff games. One of those goals was a championship winner in overtime against RHA Kelowna.

“NAX was awesome for me, we had a really great group of guys,” Rudolph explained. “We worked hard all season. There was a lot of talent, a lot of hard workers and great coaches. We had a lot of success and ended up winning it all. Just a great group of guys, and I had fun playing with them all year.”

The last time the Raiders picked first overall in the WHL Prospects Draft was 2017, when they took Kaiden Guhle. By an unusual coincidence, it was the trade of Guhle to the Edmonton Oil Kings last season that got the Raiders the first overall pick to begin with.

Rudolph was one of three first-round picks for the Raiders in the most recent draft. They also selected Riley Boychuk second overall and Ty Meunier seventh.
