La Ronge residents Doreen Polischuk and Thomas Sierzycki have joined the board of Northlands College.

A news release issued this week by the college states their expertise and experience will contribute to the strategic vision and mission at Northlands. Both were appointed by Minister of Advanced Education Gordon Wyant for three-year terms.

“In addition to the new appointments, Northlands College would like to extend congratulations to Nick Daigneault, Val Deschambeault, Bev Cheechoo and Ken Gray on their reappointments for another three-year term,” the statement notes.

“Moreover, Nick Daigneault has been appointed as the board chairperson, effective April 20, further enhancing the leadership and governance of the college.”

Remaining Northlands College board members are Elmer Campbell, Robert St. Pierre and Susanne Fern.

“I want to take this opportunity to welcome our new board members and congratulate those members on their re-appointments,” President and CEO Karsten Henriksen stated.

“I look forward to working together in the continued trajectory of transformation to better equip Northlands College in leading the way in providing quality education to the communities and residents of northern Saskatchewan.”

Also this week at Northlands College, Colleen Charles was appointed as the new director of Indigenous initiatives. Charles is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and she holds a Masters of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies from the First Nations University of Canada.

Charles will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and updating of Northlands College’s Indigenization Strategy.
