Fire ban lifted for tri-communities

A fire ban issued May 5 for the tri-communities has been lifted.

The fire ban was lifted earlier this afternoon and it follows the lead of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), which lifted a ban Wednesday that applied to all Crown lands, provincial parks and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District north of Highway 16.

There was an estimate seven millimeters of rain that fell in La Ronge on Tuesday and into Wednesday. Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a further 10 to 15 millimeters this evening and into Thursday. There’s also a 30 per cent chance of rain on Friday.

Certain areas of the province that did not receive rainfall continue to have a high fire risk, such as the area north of Churchill.
