Severe thunderstorm moving northwest

Jun 1, 2023 | 8:52 PM

A fast moving thunderstorm that left a deluge of rain in its wake, also caused some localized flooding Thursday night in Prince Albert.

The heavy downpour started around 8 p.m. shortly after Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning and lasted only minutes.

Meteorologists tracked the storm near Spruce Home around 8:15 p.m. and said it was moving northwest at 30 km/h.

Environment Canada said the severe thunderstorm is capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail, heavy rain and intense lightning.

Earlier Thursday, the weather service issued an advisory saying that conditions were favourable for the development of funnel clouds in areas across the province. A tornado warning was issued for areas of south-central Saskatchewan twice and then lifted.
