Battlefords local Tayla Hannah is Alberta-bound for the next stage in her schooling and her basketball journey.

Hannah recently committed to the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder women’s basketball program.

A versatile guard, playing both point and shooting guard through her four years at North Battleford Comprehensive High School, Hannah said she’s looking forward to the opportunity ahead to continue to pursue her passion on the hardwood while furthering her education in a new city.

“I am very excited to complete at a higher level of basketball, move to a way bigger city, and just meet a whole bunch of new people,” she said. “Basketball’s obviously one of my favourite sports so I’m really excited to continue playing and especially at Concordia.”

Hannah is familiar with the Concordia campus from her time spent there at a basketball camp earlier in the year, featuring a number of potential recruits from across Saskatchewan and Alberta. The experience also gave her a chance to meet some of her potential teammates, something that only cemented the school as the right choice in her mind.

“As I was playing basketball there, there were girls on the team that came and I really liked the feel of the team and how welcoming they were, so I felt like it would be a really good fit for me,” Hannah said.

A multi-sport athlete from a young age, basketball, volleyball, and softball were all athletic outlets for Hannah through her youth, making it no surprise to see her continuing to pursue athletics at the post-secondary level.

She said that’s always been a goal.

“I’ve been playing basketball since I was in Grade 5, and after this high school season I didn’t want to stop playing, so it was always a goal to play at the next level and at a higher level,” she said. “I’d just like to thank all my coaches for helping me get here and my mom and dad for helping me be the best I can be.”

The Concordia Thunder women’s basketball team finished the 2022-23 season first in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) North Division with a 16-4 record.
