The La Ronge Ice Wolves have made a trade while at the same time announcing a new signing for the coming season.

On Monday, La Ronge announced they have traded 2005-born defenceman Ryder Knutson to the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for a player development fee and a second draft pick in 2024.

Knutson, a Swift Current native, played only one game with the Ice Wolves last season spending most of the last two years with the Moose Jaw Warriors U18 AAA Club, where he had a total of 60 points.

In a separate move Monday, the Ice Wolves signed 2005-born forward Adam Belzil to a letter of intent for the coming SJHL season.

The Levis, QC product had 30 points in 30 games last season with the Prairie Hockey Academy U18 Prep team.

In the 2021-22 season, he tallied 39 points in 30 games with the Westlake Bourget College U17 squad en route to a league championship.

“I’m a gritty two-way centre,” Belzil said. “I possess good awareness in all three zones. I know how to backcheck hard, but this doesn’t take away from my offensive ability.”

“Adam has great speed and skill – he can score goals in different ways, and he makes great passes to set up guys,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach/GM Kevin Kaminski. “In addition to his offensive abilities, he’s a very responsible 200-foot player. He’s very good on draws and plays a physical game. We’d like to welcome Adam to the Ice Wolves.”
