Coming off an extension announcement of head coach and general manager, Brayden Klimosko last week, the Battlefords North Stars have continued to solidify their front office heading into the fall, announcing Wednesday the extension of marketing and office manager, Kennedy Schmidt.

The Stars and Schmidt have agreed to a three-year pact, keeping her in her current role with the team until the end of the 2025-26 season.

President of the North Stars, Kyle Kellgren said following Klimosko’s extension, Schmidt was the next big priority for the team.

“This past year she’s really taken the bull by the horns,” Kellgren said. “She’s really engaging in the community, getting to know her corporate sponsors, and she’s another face of our franchise our fans are getting to know, so agreeing to a three-year contract was an easy decision and we’re going into next year solid in the front office.”

Schmidt said she’s happy to extend with the team and looking forward to what the future holds.

“It’s super exciting, I get to spend another three years doing what I’ve really come to love,” she said with a smile.

Schmidt first joined the Stars ahead of the fall of 2021, coming out of the lost SJHL season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has played a critical role since, navigating the waters through the team’s return to play in ’21-22, and the subsequent success that followed, culminating in a league championship last season.

Under Schmidt’s watch, the team has put an emphasis on getting out and connecting once again in the community.

She implemented the North Stars’ season ticket BBQ ahead of the start of the 2022-23 season, also serving as the brainchild for the team’s third jersey design contest for youth Grades 7-and-under in the community, which led to the Stars’ green third jerseys with the throwback logo last season.

She is also currently gearing up for one of the biggest events in recent years for the club, spearheading the North Stars 50th Anniversary Weekend, featuring alumni, fans, and team supporters from the last five decades of junior hockey in the community, coming up June 23-24 weekend.

Schmidt said maybe best of all with the position has been being able to have her family around to share in the experience as well.

“It’s been really exciting to have my kid have all these extra older friends to hang out with,” she said with a laugh. “He loves being at the rink, and it’s been great for my whole family. Being a part of a league championship, getting to go to the national championship game, I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes from here and just to build on what we’ve done so far.”
