All the pieces are falling into place for a massive event in downtown Prince Albert on June 17. That’s the day that’s set for the annual Street Fair on and around Central Avenue.

There will be music throughout the day, with several local artists scheduled to perform, and The Hour Hand coming in from Regina. For country fans, organizers said they’ve prepared a real treat.

“We have the two stages again, which will be at 13th Street and 14th Street,” said Rhonda Trusty, executive director of the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District. “We have Justin LaBrash, who just won Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year at the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards.”

Vendors, volunteers, and sponsors have all signed on for the big event, and that means hundreds of stalls at which to buy and sell will be lining the streets all through the big day.

“With the farmer’s market, the vendors we have on board, and we have Prairie Pop Culture Celebration joining us out of Saskatoon, they’re a comic con event with vendors as well,” Trusty said. “We have around 172 vendors this year.”

So far, the entertainment and vendors are at least on par with what last year’s Street Fair brought and that bodes well for the day. The support for the street fair in 2022 was a big part of the reason there is another such fair happening in 2023.

“The energy we had last year for street fair certainly carried over,” said Trusty. “A street fair evokes memories and it creates memories, and those are happy memories. It’s an opportunity for us to come together as a community.”

This year, the day will open up with a ceremony and a procession on 14th Street. The flag bearers from Prince Albert Grand Council and the Highlanders with their pipes and drums will kick off the big day.

“The legion, ANAVETS, and cadets will come up behind them,” Trusty said. “The plan is we’re going to go as far as 11th Street, then the pipes and drums will go silent. We will be playing ‘O Canada’ and we have musicians lined up to play it at the 11th Street Stage.”

Trusty added the day is free and very much family oriented. She also said people should be prepared for lines and big crowds on Central Avenue throughout the day.
