Rockin’ The Square back in full swing in Tisdale

Tisdale is getting ready to kick off the summer in a big way by bringing in a big musical artist.

The 13th annual Rockin’ The Square is coming to town on July 7 with supergroup Trooper set to headline.

Jeanette Lyyken, the president of the Tisdale and District Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of Rockin’ The Square, told northeastNOW that the show will also feature local talent.

“Our opening band is The Gong Show, which is a Saskatchewan party band. The show starts doors open at six o’clock, and the actual concert starts at seven.”

This year is special as it marks the first year that the festival is back in full swing since the COVID-19 pandemic caused the event to be put on hold.

“There were a couple of concerts that didn’t happen because of COVID. So last year, we had a small concert just to get some funds to restart. So this year is our first big concert since COVID,” Lyyken said.

The largest crowd that the event had drawn in was around 1,200 with organizers hoping this year can beat that total.

With the streets downtown blocked off, Lyyken explained that not only are music lovers excited but local businesses are happy to welcome the extra foot traffic and are looking forward to seeing both new and old faces.

“We’ve got a lot of excellent downtown businesses and there’s a wide variety of shopping downtown,” she said. “We would love people to come in and see what we have to offer.”

Those coming to check out the show can pick up tickets in advance for $40 or $45 at the door. Tickets are available now for pick up at Reflection Paints or Elements Giftware & Home Decor in Tisdale or in Melfort at the Northern Lights Gallery.
