Free public transport to Prince Albert resumes service after additional funding found

Jun 19, 2023 | 5:00 PM

A free bus service operated by La Ronge’s Kikinahk Friendship Centre is returning after a brief pause in funding.

“It’s really good to know that we can extend it past the winter time,” said Kikinahk employee Nikeyta Bradfield, noting the service from October 2022 to March 2023 was quite busy.

“Towards the middle of it and, once we actually had more publicity about it, it started to pick up quite a bit.”

The free bus service is from Prince Albert to La Ronge and back the same day from Monday to Friday. Those days are subject to change on statutory holidays or if bad weather prohibits travel.

Transportation will begin June 26 with pick up points at Kikinahk at 9 a.m. and the Air Ronge Lake Country Co-op Gas Bar at 9:30 a.m. The drop off spot in Prince Albert is the P.A. Bus Terminal and the return time to La Ronge will be at 6 p.m.

Priority seating will be given for appointments, and children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. There is a 14 passenger limit.

To reserve a seat, the public is asked to call Kikinahk at 306-425-2051. The source of funding has asked to remain confidential until a public announcement can be made.
