La Ronge’s Pimiskatan Canoe Club is pleased to award two of its members, Ragnar Robinson and Scott Fraser, with cheques of $500 each to support their entering the 2023 Yukon River Quest—the longest canoe race in Canada.

Competing against 54 other boats, Ragnar and Scott will be paddling a canoe built by Martin Bernardin of La Ronge’s Kisseynew Canoe Company.

The race starts Tuesday, July 4 in Whitehorse and goes down the Yukon River for 715 kilometres to Dawson City.

Along the way, major obstacles include the 50-km-long Lac Laberge and the dangerous Five Finger Rapids.

Once the race starts, Ragnar and Scott plan to paddle non-stop except for one mandatory 10-hour rest break at Carmacks. They hope to make it to Dawson City in under 60 hours.

Their progress can be tracked by going to the race website at www.yukonriverquest.ca and then clicking on the event Race Tracker.

Ragnar and Scott will show up under the team name “Free Animal”.
