P.A. residents get chance to put questions to city face-to-face

For Prince Albert residents with questions about bylaw enforcement and new city projects, the chance to ask those questions in person is coming up.

The city is bringing back an event it hasn’t put on since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday evening.

The city is hosting an open house at the Johnny Bower Lobby in the Art Hauser Centre from 6:30 until 8:00 Thursday night.

“This is a big meeting for us,” said Kiley Bear, Director of Corporate Services with the City of Prince Albert. “It’s the first time we’ve been able to host an in-person gathering in the community since pre-COVID. We used to hold these annually. They’re really an opportunity for members of the public to come out and meet with administration and hear about some of the things we have going on.”

Just about every city department will be represented at the open house so residents can ask all sorts of questions. There are some topics the city is preparing to receive more questions on than others.

“Some of the topics people can expect to hear about are what we have going on at Little Red River Park, some of our park and playground development,” said Bear. “The arena and aquatic recreation centre will be represented. We’ve got by law enforcement that will be there, transit, recreation, arts and culture.”

One item the city is expecting to field a lot of questions on is the new arena and aquatic centre. Work on the project continues, and both the aquatic centre and some of the businesses around it are taking shape, with frames already in place. It’s still expected to be finished later this year.

“It’s definitely a project the community is interested in,” Bear said. “We are well on our way with construction. We’re going to have a video there so people can see exactly where things are at. It’s coming along. It’s an exciting project and we’re definitely anticipating people will be curious about that project.”

Bear added they’ll have some literature for people as well, particularly on subjects they expect people to have the most interest in.

“We’ve got people bringing out drawings and handouts, things we think people might be curious about,” said Bear. “We’ll have a lot of members of administration there to represent the issues.”
