The fundraising group for the new school being built in Carrot River got a chance to tour the building recently and shared some photos and an update on social media.

The group said it is excited to see the building develop.

“This space is starting to take shape and boy it is going to be an excellent school for our children and youth to spend their school years!” they wrote.

One photo shows the southeast corner of the school which already has the same feel as the Wildcat gymnasium.

Also approved are the large windows that will allow lots of natural light.

With the completion of the new school, the other K-5 school will close and all grades will be in one building.

This means that elementary students will have their own entrance to access their safe drop-off area on the north side of the building.

“We did not take too many photos as to leave some surprise when the work is complete. We can tell you though the library space is brilliant, the Home Economics area is well laid out for classes as well as school functions and the Practical Applied Arts lab is going to be inspiring to students interested in pursuing a trades career,” posted the group.

The school will also have a multi-use space that can be a small gym and performing arts auditorium.

The group will continue its purpose of fundraising for the outside and says there will be an update soon on their recent activities.

Construction should be done and students in the building in early 2024 and will cost $28.4 million.

Of that, the province will pay $25.7 and the remainder is being paid for by community donations and the Northeast School Division.
