Sask NDP names new candidate in Cumberland for next provincial election

Jul 8, 2023 | 6:14 PM

The Saskatchewan NDP announced on Saturday that they have named a new candidate in Cumberland for the upcoming provincial election.

Jordan McPhail was nominated Saturday afternoon and will have his name on the ballot in the next election.

McPhail succeeds retiring incumbent, Doyle Vermette.

“It is truly an honour to be succeeding my dear friend Doyle as the Saskatchewan NDP candidate here in Cumberland,” said McPhail.

“Our northern communities have so much potential. Despite that, they have been abandoned by this government. The time is now to build a province that leaves no one behind, no matter where in this beautiful province that you live.”

A member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and a Town of La Ronge Councillor, McPhail is also a tradesperson throughout northern Saskatchewan, a husband, and a father.

“I’m so excited to have Jordan as our candidate in Cumberland,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck. “I know he has big shoes to fill but an experienced leader like Jordan is the right person to do that. Jordan will make an excellent MLA for Cumberland.”

McPhail is the thirteenth candidate nominated for the Saskatchewan NDP for the 2024 provincial election. The next nomination will be in Moose Jaw Wakamow on July 15.
