First Nation beauty salon and school now at new location

Established in 2017, the salon has been operating at Atoskewin Success Centre on 104 Street in North Battleford up until now.

“Since 2018, Cheryl [Stone] has been working with BATC, and always dreamed of a new location for our salon and classroom setting,” the release said.

The First Nation-owned salon moved to a separate location where it now looks onto 100 Street in North Battleford instead, in the strip mall located just north of 20th Avenue, on the east side.

Stone, who manages the operation, told battlefordsNOW the salon actually opened at the new site earlier in June, but had the grand opening later.

The facility offers hair styling, as well as beauty and esthetics services. It is also a school offering training in the field.

“We do [offer] a bit of everything,” she said. “Lash, nail, microblading, reflexology, body waxing and everything to do with hair. We also do microdermabrasion, and body cavitation [to help break down fat].“

Stone said the facility needed a bigger location “for the salon to succeed” – to reach its potential to serve clients and provide education.

“It was a hidden gem in the back [at the former location], and most people didn’t know about it,” she said.

Stone is thrilled with the new site with easy street access to customers.

“Everyone is welcome,” she said. “We are very affordable because we are a training school as well.”

Stone noted many students she’s helped have been young mothers just hoping to “get their foot in the door,” to pursue a career in the beauty field.

“We work towards uplifting them and building that capacity in them [so they can develop marketable skills],” she said.
