The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) is bringing the annual Mile Long Parade back to the city.

The event is scheduled to start on Friday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m.

MTACC Executive Director Cal Gratton told northeastNOW those driving floats and vehicles are just as excited as the community about the event.

“It’s another signature event. We’re getting a lot of the entries in. We’re up around 35 to 40 entries right now. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate so it’s gonna be a good day,” Gratton said.

The parade will begin on the east side of the Kerry Vickar Centre, turn east down Bemister to Brunswick Street, north on Brunswick to Park Avenue, west on Park Avenue to Main Street, south on Main towards Burrow Avenue, west on Burrows to Manitoba Street and then north to the west Palace Parking Lot.

Gratton explained no matter where you are along the parade route there is something for everyone to see.

“They’re going to see a lot of floats. There are going to see a lot of vehicles making some noise such as the fire department and the ambulance will be there as well for EMS.”

There will be dignitaries lined up including MLA Todd Goudy and Mayor Glenn George. The Shriners will also make an appearance.

While there are some high-profile names in attendance, local businesses will make up roughly 95 per cent of the entries for this year.

This year’s parade has a theme that matches the other big event held by MTACC.

“This year, we have the same theme as we did for the car show. So it’s pick your decade. Everybody likes a parade and this year is going to be is going to be spectacular with the theme that we’ve got,” Gratton said.
