August inquest set in death at Sandy Bay RCMP detachment

The circumstances of how Marlene Bear died in a cell at the Sandy Bay RCMP detachment will be examined by a coroner’s jury next month.

Bear, 44, was found unresponsive in her cell on July 5, 2021, and could not be resuscitated by staff.

Inquests are mandatory in Saskatchewan for people who die while in police custody or while incarcerated and generally happen in the community where the person died.

This inquest will run from Aug. 21 to 25 at the Creighton Courthouse, with the first day starting at 10:00 am.
